For updates on Emma

Nyah has a big sister named Emma. Her blog is http://tohelpemmafly.blogspot.com
She can't wait to play with Nyah. She calls her Nina.:)

The Finances

We have been working hard to figure out how to pay for the 2nd half of the adoption. Once the dossier is sent off (in 2 weeks) we will need to raise almost $12,000 in 4 months. Now that the homestudy is done we will be able to apply for grants. We also will be doing our part in this whole thing. We know, with out a doubt, that God is moving. We want to be responsible and waste nothing that he provides.

We have decided to ask people to not give us a baby shower for Nyah. We instead have broken the financing in to smaller portions and ask that your gift be one of the items on the above list.
Iwill update this list frequently and place a color or mark the items people have asked to pay for. It will also be exciting for all of you to see as God takes care of each item. He did with Emma. Eric and I were the only ones who got to see things be checked off. Now you can visually see God move as well.
We are asking you to pray with us as we are on this journey. I know that you will be as blessed as we will be. If you are unable to financially support Nyah, we understand. You are however able to pray. I believe that prayer is more important than money anyway.God is able to move mountains no matter what. If you are able to help us, thank you. Your generosity will change lives.
Thank you!

Nyah's Updated Pictures

Nyah lives in a place that is cold in the winter. They do not have heat so they bundle up the kids in a huge amount of layers. Thus she look like a sumo wrestler. :)

It is so good to see that she has hair!

How can you pass up on a face like that???

Nyah's arm looks to be worse than Emma's. We are planning to get her into Shriner's within a couple of months of getting home.

The Paperwork

I totally forgot how much work the paperwork is. Maybe that is why I have hesitated so much on this adoption.
It is finally almost done. We have finished our homestudy and are leaving Tuesday night to Yakima WA to do our federal fingerprints. Following this we will have about a two week wait. Once that is done we will hopefully send of our dossier to China. They say that it should be about 4 months from there until we go. We know that God will take care of this time table. Both the timing (because of Melody's job) and the money will need to coincide. God is faithful. This is His baby so we know He will work it out. Just remind me to breathe every once in a while. :)

Our Family

Where We Live

We live in North Idaho.
We have a 4 bedroom house that will now seem very crowded by US standards. It will and is a blessing to have as we start this journey again.

My Demands/God's Reply

I began to explain to God why I wasn't ready. I also told God that He was going to have to take care of all our concerns and make it very clear.
I set about placing roadblocks that needed to be taken care of by God.
  • Eric would have to approve (I went home and told him about the agent calling. He was excited and said “Yes, let’s take a look at her”).
  • The family with the file would have to reject the baby. (They chose not to take her).
  • The kids would have to agree (They were all for it).
  • I would have to have job security since I only signed a one year contract (I had a job review, without asking, and was told they wanted me next year).
  • Eric would have to get a raise (He had a review, without asking, and got a raise).
  • My child care would have to agree to take another child so young (They were thrilled).
  • Jeremy’s insurance refused to cover his $13,000.00 surgery. I told God He would have to take care of it. (We received word that there was a coding error and we do not have to pay anything).
  • Due to my job we would have to go get her in the summer (We should be going in July).
  • God was going to have to provide the money for the adoption (Yet to happen, but I now no longer have doubts).

All of this happened in 1 Week!
What would you do? We decided YES this is our little girl!

My Demands/God's Reply

Our Agent Explained

The following explains why we believe that we are supposed to adopt this little girl.
Our agent called us with the following questions and information:
  • She explained that this was not protacol.
  • She knew that our names were not on the list.
  • Another family was looking at Nyah's file. She did not believe that they would take her.
  • She stated that this little girl had the same problem as Emma and she felt that we would be the best family for this little girl.
  • She explained that the baby's birthday was Oct. 16, 2006 (Jeremy's Birthday).
  • They named the child Hope (Which is part of the name that we had chosen for our next child).

Eric's Response:

  • He had an attitude of excitement and trust in God.

Melody's Response:

  • I am ashamed to admit that I was not as excitd about this.
  • To be honest, I was and am scarred to death.
  • But all of this information made me pause.

I told our agent that we would let her know.

Why So Soon?

It seems so crazy that we are starting this process again. We have only been back from Emma's adoption in China for 7 months. The following reasons are what lead us to this decision.

  • We have always planned to adopt a second child from China.
  • We did not plan to do it so soon.
  • We recently have been praying about starting the process on a 2nd child.
  • God had been placing adoption on our hearts once again.
  • Eric did not want to wait too long to start the process again.
  • We started praying as a family that God would make it abundantly clear that this is what we should be doing.
  • The very next day, after praying as a family, we got a call from our agent.
